Pepsi Throwback

BUY SOME!!! It is really good I know it sounds stupid but it is refreshing to have REAL honest-to-goodness sugar in a drink and not all that other stuff. I just wanted to share that with anyone who may or may not read my blog. Have a good evening!

The customer is not always right!

We have so many nice customers come in the store on a regular basis and it is great to get to know them by name and who they are as people instead of just seeing random faces. But on occasion we get "that" customer (you know who I'm talking about....the person from the moment they walk up you can tell that they think they are better than you, FYI they're not!) Well we had one of those last night and it was all I could do not to tell her exactly what I thought! When I am following my company's policies and procedures, to the T, don't try to tell me how I should do things. I had already explained to the customer what the policy was and she replies "Well it wouldn't be a problem at Food Lion" and my immediate thought was to say, "Ma'am did you read the sign on the storefront on your way in because I'm pretty sure it didn't say Food Lion. Thank you have a wonderful evening." But I didn't and thus I still have my job LOL! But I just thought I would share that with everyone, and remember next time you go in somewhere the people who are working there are people too, so it would be nice if you could treat us that way.

Today is Thursday....

...which for me means I have a day off from work. I've been up since around 9:30am and have pretty much tried to relax, amidst the panic that is striking me due to the rumors regarding our fearless leader, Skip Holtz, taking a head coaching offer at USF. But regardless of his decision I will be happy for him and him furthering his coaching career (either here at ECU or at another school). Thankfully I only have one class today and that is not until 4pm so I have some time to catch up on some homework, online classes, and blogging of course! The first full week of school has not been terrible thus far, most of my professors seem like down-to-earth people, and I have taken the time to get to know a few of them personally (which is rare because usually I just try to stay out of their way). I'm taking 15hrs of classes this semester and I'm working about 35 hours a week. Which brings me to my next bit of news, and that is I am now officially a full-time employee according to The Fresh Market which means I will get health insurance and dental insurance through the company which is pretty cool. Just to let everyone know the news has just come in that Skip accepted the head coaching position at USF. It is a sad day in the Pirate Nation. Good luck Skip!

Saturday Morning

I'm currently sitting on the couch in the living room, drinking coffee and watching tv. And what a wonderful moment it is! I don't have to be at The Fresh Market until 2pm so I get a chance to relax and actually enjoy my coffee instead of throwing it in a thermos and drinking it on my way to whatever destination I'm headed to.

School started back yesterday.......woo hoo (said with sarcastic enthusiasm)! It's really not that bad it's just that I was getting spoiled only having to work 40hrs/week and not worry about classes. I'm taking 15 hrs of class none of which seem unbearably painful...yet lol but I hope to crank out all A's this semester and give my GPA a welcome boost. Yesterday was pretty awesome I got a chance to hang out with Rach, Molly, and Lily. Then Amanda, Rachel, and I discussed our impending trip to Disney World to see if we could make this dream come true! Then Josh and I watched Four Brothers which is a great movie until we went to bed around 10ish I guess (I think we are both getting old).

Also, I got a great opportunity at work the other day but, I will talk about that in more detail later. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Note to Self....

Invest in decaf coffee if you intend to consume coffee post-8pm! It is now 1am and I am still awake.....the Jamaican Blue Mountain blend from TFM, however good, is not a night time coffee.
Silly me, I mean it is totally my fault, but it was soooo good!

Tonight Josh, Rachel, and I performed the sad task of taking down the Christmas tree (I will say though I think Josh and I are both equally excited to have our living room back to normal). We watched Iron Chef at which point I started drinking the previously mentioned coffee and relaxed around the apartment watching Food Network.

Once Josh went to bed and Rach went home, I was obviously still awake so, I posted some pictures on facebook of Christmas this year (there will be more once I get a copy of the pics Mama took). So, if you get a chance check those out.

I hope everyone has a good Monday morning!

2009

WOW! It has been quite a long time since I last posted a blog. But, it is never to late to tell you about the goings on in my life. 2009 was a great year, I enjoyed it and I had plenty of amazing times with friends and family. I just wanted to mention a few things that to me made 2009 a great year.

I have worked at The Fresh Market since April, and since that time I have worked my way up from a courtesy clerk (grocery bagger) to the assistant manager of the deli. Quite a stretch in just a few short months if I do say so myself. I work with some of the best people imaginable, they are lively, creative, and down right hillarious at times. They are the kind of people who make it enjoyable to go to work each and every day. At this point in my life I cannot imagine working with a better company.

Adventures with friends and family, where shall I begin? I could start with Pirate Football, trips to Atlantic Beach with Rachel, random times being at home with my family (always good times), hanging out with the Averys, Busch Gardens, carving pumpkins with family (both blood family and those whom I claim as family), or just playing COD with Josh, Tim, and Matt well into the early hours of the morning. All great times!!!

I'm gonna start with football just because the Pirates are playing in the 51st Autozone Liberty Bowl today. If you've ever been to a Pirate football game and heard Purple Haze playing in Dowdy Ficklen Stadium to the thunderous applause of 43,000+ as the Pirates run onto the field led out by Skip Holtz himself then you know what it means to have a good time. We have painted our faces, dressed in all black for the black out against Virginia Tech, yelled, screamed, and cheered until we were purple in the face and it was fun every single moment (winning or losing). And on a side note when I say we yelled, screamed, and cheered I mean it, my boss actually planned for the fact that I would not have a voice the next day after a game. All this dedication led to back to back C-USA titles and yet another appearance in the Liberty Bowl. Good times to say the least.

Over the summer Rachel and I got into the habit of going down to Atlantic Beach for the day whenever I had a day off from work and I must say those days at the beach really stick out in my mind as some of the best times I've had all year. I cannot convey to you in words how relaxing it is to just go to the beach for the day after working 40 hours that week and just chilling with the person you love. Absoloutely amazing! It is a summer tradition I hope to continue in 2010 as much as possible.

For anyone who has ever met my family you know what amazing people they are. We are the kind of people who meet you at the door with a hug and welcome you with open arms. I am so proud that that is the way I was raised and I think it contributes greatly to who I am today. But needless to say whenever Josh, or I, or both of us go home we always have a good time. Honestly though how could you not when your family genuinely wants to spend time with you and wants to have fun. We always have lunch together (Grandma and Grandy included) and whenever I go home San Jose is a must. For those of you who aren't familiar with Rocky Mount San Jose is probably the best Mexican restaraunt there and my personal favorite. And on one special occasion every year we all gather in Rocky Mount to carve pumpkins. And when I say we I mean my family and anyone else I consider family. Honeslty it is my favorite time of the year hands down. We get our pumpkins, pick out a pattern to carve, carve our little hearts out, all the while talking and joking and laughing. It truly is a wonderful time. The carving of pumpkins is usually followed by a bonfire which again is always fun. I am just truly thankful for an awesome family.

Always around that same time of year as our pumpkin carving comes the annual trip to Busch Gardens for Howl-O-Scream. This year the group was Me, Rach, Sofi, Brittany and Matt (who are the only two non-Pirates who I would give honorary Pirate status to.......Matt would probably get this) This year Rachel, Sofi, and I drove up to VA and met Matt and Brittany there. We rode all the rides and went through the haunted houses which were amazing as usual and had a genuinely good time. It was nice to get to hang out with everybody and ride rides and such.

Have I mentioned the Averys yet in this post??? Because if I haven't let me just say they are AWESOME!!!!!!! Rachel watches Molly and Lily while Chris and Amanda are at work on Wednesdays and Fridays so we have both gotten in some quality Avery time in the past year, both with the girls and Chris and Amanda. I couldn't ask for two funnier kids to be around and I couldn't ask for two better friends in Amanda and Chris.

I've had many good times this year and I hope that 2010 holds as much excitement for me as 2009 has. I do have a few goals for 2010 though that I aim to make happen. First I would like to travel more (both with work and personally), I want to save some money/manage my money wisely, I would also like to set a goal to eat at home more often and not eat so much fast food.

I hope everyone has a wonderful 2010!

Home Sweet Home...

So, I finally had a day off from work on Saturday and I was able to go back home!!! Even though I was only there for a day (I had to work at 8am on Sunday) it was a lot of fun.

I got home Friday night after work and Mama, Daddy and I just sat around and talked about life in general until we all decided it was in our best interests to go to sleep. I woke up Saturday morning watched a little TV with Mama and Daddy before we started our day. Daddy had to cut the grass so he did, and we had planned the night before we were going to grill bratwurst and hot dogs for lunch :-) so Mama and I went to the grocery store.

With our individual missions accomplished we fired up the grill, waited for the charcoal to heat up (the best way to cook brats is over charcoal in my opinion), and we were on our way to a fantastic lunch. While Daddy got the grill ready I helped Mama cut squash into very thin layers because she was making fried squash for our side dish. Let me just tell you, Mama can fix some good food! We ate the squash almost as fast as she could get them out of the frying pan. We finished cooking and then sat down to eat.

The food was delicious! We watched "Defiance" while we ate, it is a really good movie that is a true story of how Jewish people from Bella-Russia survived during the Holocaust. I won't get into too much detail because I am giving it my Gold Star recommendation for anyone who is interested in watching it. After the movie we went to Grandma and Grandy's house to talk for a while before going to supper.

Supper took place at none other than San Jose (the best Mexican restaurant I've had thus far in my life). We ate, talked, joked, laughed, enjoyed the authentic Mexican tunes playing in the background it was an all around good time.

After supper we went back to the house for me to grab my stuff and say good-bye to the dogs (Xena, Sweetie, and Happy) and Garth our cat. I returned to Greenville and just relaxed for the night.

Usually on my blog I tend to stick to just the little stories of my life which hopefully the people of my blogosphere (the new level of the atmosphere that revolves around my blog) find amusing. But, today I just wanted to remind everyone how important family is. Our families are the people that God intended us to be with and learn from and also to cherish. So take time to enjoy the little things with your family because I think sometimes we take those moments for granted and don't realize we may never get another chance to experience them.
